CHOOSE LIFE
"Why do people voluntarily choose to abort their children?"
I'm sure words like "rape" and "Pro-Choice" come to mind when you are asked this difficult question.
We couldn't help but to feel sympathetic toward, let's say a fifteen-year-old girl, Kate, sexually assaulted and becomes pregnant. When she is faced with the decision, when she is given, or some argue, she is entitled to, the freedom of choice. Kate chooses abortion with little or no hesitation, keeping the baby simply isn't an option. She believes it is absurd even to consider keeping the baby, when "everyone else's doing it! Plus, I am the one victimized here, I deserve to choose the easy way." In this case, considering all that's taken place, including the assault, do you still pity this young girl, do you still consider her pure, innocent, and most importantly, only a victim? Should it really still be her choice when what she desires, determines the life or death for another human being? Is she old, mature enough to make the decision her both self and her child? How likely is it that in five or ten years, as an adult, she is going to regret her decision?
On the other hand, what if a wealthy, well- respected couple, Mr and Mrs X were to choose to abort their child, simply because they think they are still young, and they want to have as much as fun as possible without a "burden'. Or they think having the baby may cause their relationship to end? Should it really be the Mrs X's freedom to choose death for an individual human being? Should abortion be taken more seriously, it is not hard to find people like Mr. and Mrs. X who do not think it is necessary.
What is the true difference between abortion and murder, in terms of killing? Is there one? If you think there is, do you have scientific evidence to present to us, or is it simple matter of opinions or feelings?
Why are murder, rape, robbery, theft even trespass considered crimes and criminals get punished? We all believe that it is only fair for criminals to suffer the consequences, and pay for their harmful actions. Then why do the killers of their very own children get to live with little or no criticism from our society, is that fair?
Let's look at what abortion really means, it is "the removal of an embryo or fetus from the uterus in order to end a pregnancy". In many Pro-Choice women's eyes, abortion is no more than the action of ending a pregnancy. When put in this way, doesn't pregnancy sound much more like what the woman has to go through, it is the woman's body, thus she has/should have complete control of what happens? However, pregnancy means more than that, it means "the carrying of one or more offspring in a female's body". So, the ending of a pregnancy isn't only the ending of an experience for the woman, but also the ending of life for her child. In reality, most sane people would agree that abortion harms: ending of the child's life, harms the child. No kidding.
In this case, you would assume logically that, according to the previous sentence, people would consider abortion a crime, just like any other crimes mentioned above, but an even more serious crime, for it concerns the ending of life, ending of a human being's life who is pure, innocent and only a victim, for it is harmful!
However it is clear that enough people disagree with that for abortion to be legal, poplar and a lucrative business for many in this civilized world we live in.
Also, it is apparent that today, more and more people feel that it is wrong and cruel to punish victims of rape who choose abortion to end pregnancy, for they have already suffered greatly and they should only deserve empathy and support. What do you think? Does the suffering of one justify the death of another?
Look at this fact: in almost 99% of all U.S. abortions, the woman having the abortion chose to have sexual intercourse in the first place. Just over 1% of all abortions in the United States happen as a result of rape.
Even if you feel that a person like Kate should not be punished, then how about the rest of the people like Mr and Mrs X? They choose abortion not because they do not have the money or resources required to raise a child, nor have they suffered from a traumatizing experience like Kate. They choose abortion, most likely because like so many others, they would rather choose to do what's easy, than what is right. Often times, they do not understand or dare to recognize one simple fact: abortion is harmful, abortion is killing. With this ignorance, they are able to choose abortion without feeling guilty. They have no need to feel ashamed either, so few people today realize what abortion really means, the society, unfortunately, is just as ignorant. On rare occasions, when certain people do stand up and criticize them, they refuse to face the facts and science, instead they argue that they have freedom to choose (Pro-Choice), However, according to Abort73.com, (a website fighting against abortion and ignorance people have toward abortion), "....In the end, we are only free to choose so long as that choice doesn't kill or harm someone else, and our government exists to take away those choices that do..." Remember one thing, the unborn babies are unable to speak for themselves, they do not have the power to criticize, or even blame their killers. They are the ones who most need protection from the government, not people avoiding responsibilities and seeking the easy ways out.
Finally, I have two clips to show you. The first is a clip from "Scrubs", JD and his new girlfriend discuss whether or not they should keep her baby.
In this clip, we see clearly ways JD and his girlfriend consider the fact that "abortion means killing the baby" not so important. JD's selfishness shows through when he talks to Jesus about his reasons for getting an abortion, which is it might affect his relationship with his girlfriend. He bases his decision on the wellbeing of himself and his girlfriend alone, and fails to even consider adoption.
JD and his girlfriend's careless attitude on such a serious topic in a popular TV show goes to show just how people view abortion today, if I was to use one word to describe, it would be "Inhumane". Yes, abortion is a crime against humanity.
I do not know how to use any words to describe how disgusted I was after watching these two 40 second long clips below:
Readers, I guess there is not much left for me to say. If you agree with me and my decision to choose life, or if you are still unable to understand the message of this post, just keep one thing in mind: We could never learn to be brave and patient if there were only joy in the world. It seems to be so difficult sometimes, to choose to do the right thing, and the truth is never easy to handle. Use your courage and patience to do what's right, find the truth and defend it.
What Others Have To Say:
Well, I think in "Kate's" case, abortion is, well, I don't want to say acceptable, but yeah. There was an episode of House where a young girl got raped and House told her it would be best if she aborted because the pregnancy would have caused a lot of emotional and physical distress for the girl. Hopefully I would never be faced with that situation, but I don't think I could bear to continue a pregnancy like that.
